Amazon Prime Video in a nutshell

Amazon Prime Video is one of the biggest streaming services in the world and home to some of the most talked-about TV shows of the last few years.

Clarkson’s Farm, Reacher, The Boys, Fallout and The Lord of the Rings series have all helped turn Prime Video into a serious rival to Netflix and Disney+. New original shows are added throughout the year too, while the library also includes thousands of films, documentaries and box sets.

Amazon has become excellent at producing big-budget series. Reacher has built a huge following, Clarkson’s Farm continues to attract new viewers every season (plus its awesome) and The Boys remains one of the most entertaining shows available on any streaming platform.

Live sport is available in some markets too, such as football (soccer), giving Prime Video something many streaming services still struggle to offer. Combined with a huge catalogue of films and TV shows, there is usually plenty to watch regardless of whether you’re after a new series or a film for a Friday night.

Amazon Prime Video pricing

The 30-day free trial gives you a full month to explore the service without paying anything upfront.

A month is probably more than enough time to binge-watch a couple of major series, catch up on films you’ve been meaning to watch and decide whether the library offers enough value to keep the subscription going.

After that, it’s £8.99 per month (UK), or a comparable fee in most other countries. For that, you also get the full Amazon Prime subscription, which is free delivery on most items purchased on Amazon, plus a whole load of extra perks.

Amazon Prime Video pros and cons

Pros

  • 30-day free trial
  • Excellent TV shows
  • Large film and TV library
  • Available on most devices
  • Regularly updated content

Cons

  • Some content requires an additional rental or purchase
  • The library changes over time

Our thoughts

Clarkson’s Farm alone has probably sold more Prime Video subscriptions than Amazon’s marketing team could ever dream of. The combination of farming disasters, Kaleb’s one-liners and Jeremy Clarkson creating chaos wherever he goes makes it one of the best shows on any streaming platform.

Reacher, Fallout and The Boys show are a completely different type of show, and all super popular. Basically, whoever you are, there’s probably a series or two to get stuck into, with new ones coming out regularly.

The original content has improved massively over the last few years and now stands comfortably alongside anything Netflix, Disney+ or Apple TV+ is producing.

A 30-day free trial is plenty of time to work your way through a few major series and decide whether Prime Video deserves a permanent place in your monthly subscriptions. There are worse ways to spend a month than getting stuck into Clarkson’s Farm and seeing where the algorithm takes you next.
