American Express is a huge global company which offers a wide range of credit cards, which often earn you rewards when you spend. These rewards are typically points on your card, called membership rewards points, and you can use these points to purchase rewards. You can use the points on a whole range of things such as cashback, hotels, flights, gift cards, car hire, airport lounge excess, travel extras, shop directly with points at certain retailers, and even donate to charity. The list is pretty much endless.
There’s also the coveted companion voucher, which gives you a free flight with British Airways across the world, so you can take a friend on holiday for free (or you can just use it for yourself).
A common option is to convert the points to Avios points which gets you discounts and upgrades with British Airways and some other airlines. The perfect addition to your holiday away.

There is a wide range, depending on how many points you’d like to earn and the rewards itself, plus if you are happy paying a monthly subscription or not to earn more. American Express has a wide range of cards, which range from free to a few hundred pounds per year. It all depends on the card itself, but generally paying a monthly fee gets you access to earning more points and earning better rewards, but you can still earn a decent amount of points on the free cards.
We think American Express is a great option for a credit card. Earning the rewards as you spend seems like a no-brainer as you’re spending anyway! With American Express the rewards are very good and you can earn Avios points that you can spend with British Airways for free travel or upgrades.
American Express is also known for excellent customer support, and they’ll help with any payment issues or fraud, and you get extra payment protections versus a regular bank card. Overall, it’s a great choice and well worth checking out.
