PostHog is a tool that collects data from your app, website or software tool and helps you understand what's going on behind the scenes. Technically, you might call this an analytics platform.
You can get analytics such as the number of users, what they are doing (events), where they come from etc. However, it’s not just the overall numbers, it’s designed for engineering and product development teams to get an insight into the software too. For instance, there’s a range of tools that include error tracking, a/b testing, surveys, data storage, workflows, feature tracking and session replays (there’s loads more).
It’s becoming the go-to option for most software development teams.
To claim the PostHog deal, you’ll need to apply online to their PostHog for Startups program. When accepted, you’ll get a whopping $50,000 added to your account to spend however you like (that’s a lot of usage).
To get started, click the link above, and then create a PostHog account and add a credit card (it won’t be charged as there’s a free plan). Then complete the application for the PostHog for Startups program (same link). If you’re accepted, you’ll get an email to confirm.
To qualify for the deal, your company or project will need to be under 2 years old, and have less than $5 million in funding.
There’s a free plan (whoop!) which covers a lot of the features up to a limit. They claim the free plan is that good that 90% of their customers use it, and only 10% pay.
Depending on what features you use, you’ll pay a fee depending on how much you use them. The fee is different depending on the actual feature. It’s best to simply get started and then as you use more features, you’ll see how much you’ll need to pay to continue with the same usage.
We think PostHog is pretty epic. It’s really good as an all-in-one tool to measure analytics for your software tool, website or mobile app with a huge range of features. They thought about pretty much everything, and there’s new features developed all the time.
The branding is great, and it’s really user friendly as long as you have a minimum amount of technical understanding (it’s designed more for engineers). And, the free plan is great, with most features free up to a point.
If you’re building a software business, it’s well worth checking out.
